It’s a new month and time for a new Mother Goose Time preschool theme! During the month of May, we will be learning all about Bugs & Crawly Things – the boys are SO excited! During Week One we will cover ladybugs, spiders, grasshoppers, ants, and bees.
One of my favorite things about the Mother Goose Time preschool curriculum is that it challenges Monkey and and Booger in a fun way, so they are learning important problem solving skills without even realizing it! When I dumped the bag of bug manipulatives on the table, the boys immediately started arguing over who got what. I asked them if they could think of a way to split the bugs so that they would both be happy. Monkey thought for a minute, and noticed that there were four different colors of bugs and that it appeared that for each different bug, there was one of each color. Awesome observations!
He suggested that since Booger’s favorite color is blue, he should get the blue bugs and since his favorite color is green but there were no green bugs, he would take all the red bugs. I asked what they thought they should do with the remaining bugs and Booger chimed in, “we can share them!” So they set to work separating the bugs by color. Wouldn’t you know it, that’s exactly what the teacher’s guide wanted them to do!
After a bit of play, I asked them if they could think of another way to separate the bugs. Booger said “All the Butterfrees?” (All our bugs had been renamed to their pokemon equivalent 🙂 ) So the boys set to work separating the bugs by type.
Aren’t these ladybug headbands the cutest thing? Booger decided he needed to be a ladybug knight!
Thanks for stopping by! Next week we will be learning about bug homes.
