For this review, we have been listening to the Smart Kidz Radio Live Stream from Smart Kidz Media.
Currently, Smart Kidz Radio, a free “edutainment” radio station, is only available from a computer with internet access. Free apps for IOS and Android will be released soon and will be available for download from the iTunes app store and Google Play.
Additionally, you will soon be able to upgrade your free account to include On Demand programing for $3.99 a month.
How We Used Smart Kidz Radio
We listened to the Smart Kidz Radio live stream from my computer a few times a week. We quickly noticed that the stream always started with the same songs, in the same order… After a week, the songs changed, but again, it was the same songs in the same order.
The majority of the songs are sung by a kids “chorus” which made it extremely hard for us to decipher what exactly they were singing about. Even after hearing the same songs across multiple days, none of us were actually able to sing along.
I did appreciate that the live stream is completely ad free. There is a host/narrator that will occasionally provide a brief introduction to a new topic followed by a few songs that discuss that specific topic.
For us, the strength of Smart Kidz Radio comes from the free podcast fairy tales that are available. We LOVED these!
We were able to access over 15 fairy tales/nursery rhymes including:
- Little Red Riding Hood
- Robin Hood
- The Three Little Pigs
- The Itsy Bitsy Spider
I did notice that the stories were a bit edited from the versions I was familiar with. For example, in the story of Little Red Riding Hood, rather than eating Grandma and Red Riding Hood, the wolf instead tricks Grandma into leaving her house and then tries to steal Red’s basket of goodies. This is a great edit for younger or sensitive children, but it left my boys saying “Wait! That’s not how the story goes!”
The production quality on the podcasts was great and each story came to life with different voice tones/pitches, sound effects, and music.
The On Demand features are not available yet, but I’m looking forward to getting access to them. You can access samples of some of the over 1,000 original songs and stories that will be available On Demand.
Here are a few of the topics that will be included:
- Early Learning Radio Program (Ages 2 – 4)
- Good Behavior Skills Radio Program (Ages 3 – 6)
- Living Skills Radio Program (Ages 4 – 10)
- Survival Skills to Grow On Radio Program (Ages 6 – 10)

Monkey and Booger’s Thoughts
Monkey: I didn’t really like the songs, but I really liked listening to the stories. They were super cool and fun to listen to!
Booger: I liked the songs and the stories! They were so funny!
While the live stream radio wasn’t the best fit for our family, I highly recommend that you try it out yourself. We really enjoyed the fairy tale podcasts and look forward to getting access to the On Demand material!
